Multifuel and wood burning stoves have always been very popular and with soaring fuel prices they are now a very inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to heat your home.

Due to pollution and smoke control it is not possible to use normal multifuel and woodburning stoves in some areas. In smoke control zones it is required that you use a stove that has passed certain test's and is approved for use in these area's.

Exempt appliances are appliances (ovens, wood burners and stoves) which have been exempted by Statutory Instruments (Orders) under the Clean Air Act 1993 or Clean Air (Northern Ireland) Order 1981. These have passed tests to confirm that they are capable of burning an unauthorised or inherently smoky solid fuel without emitting smoke.
