Hi. Can this fire be fitted within a marble fireplace? We are aware that some gas fires both discolour and crack the marble. Thanks

Hi Hill thank you for getting in touch. You are correct with what you say about discolouring marble, as this will happen with pretty much every gas fire when used with marble. So, yes it could be fitted within a marble fireplace but it may well discolour the marble. I hope this helps?

Previously had 2 glass fronted gas fires, both of which very quickly had a bad "smeeching" effect to the glass, which was extremely unsightly and necessitated me spending again and again to replace the fires. Has this design fault been resolved on more modern fires, or is it still a problem with all glass fronted gas fires?

Hi there. I can't speak for the manufacturers themselves but this issue you speak of is not one we come across a lot from our customers. I would imagine that every step is taken to avoid issues like this, and if you head to our top of the range gas fire models I would like to think you would not have any such issues. So the relevant section of the user guide reads thus:
"The fire must must not be installed directly onto carpet or other combustible
floor materials. The fire must only be installed on a hearth it must not be
installed directly onto carpet or other combustible floor materials. The fire is
suitable for fitting to non-combustible fire place surrounds and proprietary
fire place surrounds with a temperature rating of at least 150 degrees celcius
(Class “O”). If a heating appliance is fitted directly against a wall combustible
material must be removed from behind it. Soft wall coverings such as blown vinyl,
wall paper etc. could be affected by the rising hot air and scorching and/or
discoloration may result. Due consideration should be made to this when installing
or decorating.
1.4 SHELF POSITION
The fire may be fitted below a combustible shelf providing there is a minimum
distance of 200mm above the top of the fire and the shelf does not project more
than 150mm. If the shelf overhangs more than 150mm the distance between the
fire and the shelf must be increased by 15mm for every 25mm of additional
overhang over 150mm."
As you can see there is no mention of television there. What we would always say is check the warranty of your TV to see if there is anything mentioned in relation to potential damage caused by the heat output of a fire. I hope this helps.
