To help you make an informed choice regarding your new investment, we’ve previously discussed how to create the perfect media wall with a fireplace and to further support your research, here, we’ll be breaking down the cost of building a media wall with a fireplace. We will also introduce you to some of our favourite media wall electric fires to serve as a source of inspiration for your media wall project.

How much does it cost to build a media wall with a fireplace?

Creating a media wall that includes a fireplace is an investment. However, the financial outlay may add value to your home, and it will undoubtedly benefit your everyday life.

As with any home interior project, a number of contributing factors will influence the cost of purchasing and installing your media wall fireplace. As a ballpark figure, the average cost of buying and installing a good quality media wall with a fireplace can start at around £1,500 and go up to and beyond £3,500.

Setting a budget

It is best to set your budget early to know how much money you have to work with and which products fit your specified budget and brief. You may also need to factor in the following considerations depending on your requirements, your budget and the space you are working with.

Wall preparation

Before you choose your fireplace and media components, you will need to prepare the media wall area. As a general guide, the average cost of plasterboards, skirting boards and electrical work to create your media wall can work out anywhere between £55 to £70 per m2.

You also need to identify if you need to reinforce an existing wall or create a false wall to house your TV and electric fireplace. If you are creating a false wall, this will need to be made from a wooden structure that is covered with plasterboard. The plasterboard itself is available in pre-cut sheets, with a standard sheet of plasterboard measuring 2,400 x 1,200 x 9. mm and costing around £8-10.

Depending on your circumstances, this job may need to be carried out by a qualified tradesperson who will inevitably charge for their time on top of materials.

You will also need to consider if any additional electrical work is required to be completed by a qualified electrician. You’re going to need at least two plug sockets in the vicinity of your media wall and you may choose to hide your sockets within the wall or have the sockets in view. Both options may have differences in cost depending on what your electrician says and how your wiring is configured.
