We have the original fireplaces still in our house. Would I be able to fit this in the holes or would a qualified engineer have to do it?

Thank you for your enquiry.
If the opening you have is big enough to fit this fire in to, you will be able to install it yourself.
With it being electric, you simply have to plug it in and it will work.
