Can You Control Your Fireplace Using a Smartphone?
Smartphones, smart TVs, even smart fridges. Yes, it seems like everything is turning ‘smart’ these days and now fireplaces are getting in on the act too! If you’ve ever wondered if you can control your fireplace using a smartphone, you’ll find the answer below. Keep reading to find out more about smartphone-controlled fireplaces.
Smart Fireplace or Retrofit Smart Tech?
When it comes to controlling a fireplace using your smartphone, you have two options. The first option is to buy a smart fireplace which comes set-up and ready to connect to a smartphone. All you need to do is download the brand’s app, and off you go. You can control the fire with your smartphone (or with some models, your voice!)
The other route is to buy a separate controller and app and install it on your current fireplace. As you can imagine, this can involve quite a bit of work to install sensors, controllers, connecting to your home wifi and downloading and connecting an app.
If you’re in the market for a new fireplace, then we would absolutely recommend going down the first route and buying a smart fireplace which comes ready for smartphone control. In our experience, trying to retrofit an older fire with smart technology can be a real headache.
The best smartphone controlled electric fireplaces
If you’ve decided that you want a smart fireplace, then which are the best brands to go for? Here at Direct Fireplaces we stock three of the leading smart fireplace brands in the UK:
- OER Fireplaces.
- Flamerite Fireplaces.
- Elgin & Hall Fireplaces.
Each of these brands has a dedicated range of smart fireplaces that will easily connect to your Apple or Android smartphone.
Let’s take a closer look at each brand and their smart fireplace offerings…
OER Smartphone Fireplaces
OER stands for Olde Englande Reproductions and is a company that has received more awards than any other UK fireplace manufacturer. Those awards are for good reason, as OER is always pushing the boundaries of innovation - the prime example of this being their smartphone-controlled smart fireplaces.
Below we’ve set out our most popular OER smartphone enable fireplaces.
OER California Electric Fireplace Suite with Base
The OER California is a stunning, modern-looking smart fireplace that’ll elevate the aesthetics of any room. It features a base which provides a small amount of convenient storage space below the fireplace.
It’s also a flexible fireplace. If you wish, you can remove the glass from the front to create an open front appliance. And, don’t forget its smartphone app, which means you can adjust your fire without leaving the comfort of your sofa!
OER Alpine Floor Standing Electric Fireplace Suite
Elegant. That’s perhaps the best word to describe OER’s Alpine fireplace suite. Featuring a beautiful, white riven laminated shelf and base, the main fireplace opening is complemented by Woodhaven grey side panels.
The Alpine comes with a three-sided glass front, so you can achieve that uber-modern look that’s so popular right now. Alternatively, this glass can be removed to create a more traditional open-fronted look.
Plus, the Alpine comes with all of the bells and whistles you’d expect from a smart fireplace, such as app-based control, a thermostatic remote control and more.
OER Roc 2 Wall Mounted Electric Fire
The OER Roc 2 is a beautiful, wall-mounted electric fire that comes with its own satin white chimney breast and a real grey slate veneer shelf. This surround supports a Vision E-line 900 3-sided fire.
Three-sided glass-fronted fires are exceptionally popular at present, but if you’d prefer a more traditional look, you can remove the 3-sided glass front. The Roc 2 also comes with smartphone control, a thermostatic remote control and requires minimal assembly.
Flamerite Smartphone Fireplaces
Another leading brand of smart fireplaces is Flamerite. As one of the oldest specialist independent electric fire manufacturers in the UK, Flamerite has developed a reputation for innovation and delivering fireplaces that are not merely on-trend, but shape trends.
Flamerite offers two different options when it comes to the flame effect and smart control of your fire.
Nitra Flame
The first is Nitra Flame, which is a vibrant, colourful flame and fuel effect with a deep high definition reflection. This flame effect is controlled via Flamerite’s Fire eControl app, which is an easy to use iOS and Android app with advanced features to control your fire.
Radia Flame
The second of Flamerite’s flame effects is Radia Flame - a strong and radiant flame image with a deep fuel reflection. This flame effect is controlled via the Smart eControl app, which has advanced features to control the fire.
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at Flamerite’s smart app technology, let’s take a look at some of their most popular smart fireplaces.
Flamerite Glazer 1800 3-2-1 Electric Inset Wall Fire
Media walls are so hot right now (if you’ll excuse the pun) - and the Flamerite Glazer 1800 is the absolute perfect fireplace for media walls.
It’s highly versatile. Whether you want a three-sided, two-sided or single-sided fire, the Glazer 1800 can be easily modified to fit one of these options. The Glazer has a realistic cinderwood fuel bed and uses Flamerite’s ‘Omniglide’ tilting front glass screen to enhance the flame picture.
The Glazer 1800 is also packed with features. In addition to its innovative smartphone app, it also has a 7-day programmable timer, thermostatically controlled heat, dimmable LED flame effects and an open window detection system.
Flamerite Glazer 1500 3-2-1 Electric Inset Wall Fire
Providing a ‘widescreen’ fireplace, the Flamerite Glazer 1500 is the perfect fireplace if you want to make a statement.
Being an inset fireplace, the Glazer 1500 is perfect for large media walls. What’s more, it can be used as a three, two or single-sided fire to add an extra element of interest to your living room.
As with the other fireplaces in the Glazer range from Flamerite, the Glazer 1500 is an app-controlled smart fireplace and comes packed with features including a 7-day programmable timer, thermostatically controlled heat, dimmable LED flame effects and an open window detection system.
Flamerite Glazer 600 3-2-1 Electric Inset Wall Fire
The Glazer 600 offers a more compact inset wall fire for those looking to heat smaller spaces or construct more discrete media walls.
But, although it’s smaller than the other Flamerite fires we’ve listed here, the Glazer 600 packs just as much tech and features as its larger siblings. So, choose this fireplace and you’ll get innovative app control, a 7-day programmable timer, dimmable LED flame effects and an open window detection system.
Elgin & Hall Pryzm Smartphone Fireplaces
For half a century Elgin & Hall has produced stunning fireplaces and surrounds from its base in North Yorkshire.
Today, Elgin & Hall is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of fires and fireplaces and in addition to traditional designs, also produces cutting-edge smart fireplaces, which as you’ll see, are not short on tech!
If you have Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant installed in your home, then you’ll be able to use these to voice control certain Pryzm fireplaces with ease. Keep reading to find out more about Elgin & Hall’s novel smart fireplaces.
Elgin & Hall Pryzm Caselli Timber Electric Fireplace Suite
The floorstanding Elgin & Hall Pryzm Caselli is a stunning, yet easy to install, smart fireplace.
Thanks to its low stance, the Castelli provides more than enough room to accommodate a television or piece of artwork on the wall above it. In addition to its sleek, modern aesthetic, the Caselli is packed with interesting features and technology.
For example, it comes complete with LED mood lighting under the main plinth, which provides multiple colour and brightness settings. Controlling these settings is as easy as downloading Elgin & Hall’s smartphone app. Alternatively, simply use your voice via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to change settings. With your voice command you can ask to change the colour and brightness of the LED mood lights to your preferred setting.
The Caselli also features a stunning 5D flame effect, a realistic post flame smouldering smoke effect, a hand-painted loose log display, a panoramic glass screen for optimum flame performance and much more.
Elgin & Hall Pryzm Camino Wall Mounted Timber Electric Fireplace Suite
If you love the look of a chimney breast, but don’t want all of the hassles that go with a traditional flue, then the Elgin & Hall Pryzm Camino is a perfect alternative.
A clean, sleek, electric fireplace, the Camino is wall-mounted and incorporates a beautiful plinth and chimney breast around a feature-packed fire.
Like its Caselli sibling, the Camino comes complete with LED mood lighting situated under the plinth, providing near-infinite variations in colour and brightness which can be controlled via an app on your smartphone.
The Camino also features an LED-effect fuel bed with 13 colour options and rotation setting, a patent-pending design, a 7-day programmable thermostatic remote control, glowing ember effect with miniature pebble fuel bed and much more.
